Bio James Owen " The Rev " Sullivan

The Reverend Tholomew Plague, aka The Rev, was born on February 9, 1981 as James Owen Sullivan. His most common nicknames were Jimmy and The Rev, though 'Rat Head' used to be his former stage name. At the age of ten, Jimmy got his own drum kit. He attended a Catholic school with lead singer M. Shadows but got expelled in second grade. He was also expelled from Huntington Beach High School for 'a slew of behavioral infractions' and was kicked out of the alternative school, resulting in him dropping out of school. As a teen, he spent a lot of time living in a laundromat and was constantly in and out of homes. He was always spotted wearing excentric outfits such as colored kimonos and bathropes. Before joining Avenged Sevenfold, Jimmy had been in the third-wave ska band Suburban Legends, Ballistico and Pinkly Smooth (with guitarist Synyster Gates). His first record was released when he was 18. There was no particular reason why Jimmy had his name 'The Reverend Tholomew Plague' according to the 'All Excess' DVD by Avenged Sevenfold. Some of Jimmy's favorite bands were Rancid, The Transplants, Organized Riot and Slayer. Some of his music influences were Vinnie Paul (Pantera), Dave Lombardo and Paul Bostaph (Slayer) and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theather). Jimmy started doing more vocal work for Avenged Sevenfold while recording the selftitled album. He also got a lot more involved into the writing process of the songs, for instance by coming up with new riffs. He was sponsored by DW Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Pro-Mark Drumsticks and Evans Drumheads. Jimmy was engaged to Leana Noelle MacFadden, better known as Leana Silver.

On December 28th, 2009 around 1pm PST, Jimmy was found death in his home in Huntington Beach, California. His death was reported as due to natural causes, however autopsy results were inconclusive and further tests are pending. Avenged Sevenfold made the following statement on their official website, saying:

"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Jimmy you are forever in our hearts. We love you.

M Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance and Johnny Christ"

On January 5th, a private funeral was held for Jimmy. A day later, January 6th, he was buried in Huntington Beach, California.

On June 9th, 2010 Coroner officials say Jimmy had died of an accidental overdose and indicated that he had an enlarged heart, which could have played a role in his death. It was a "combined effect of multiple drugs and alcohol," Orange County Coroner Deputy Dan Aikin said. The drugs listed were Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Diazepam, Nordiazepam and Ethanol. Jimmy's enlarged heart was marked as a "significant condition" in the coroner's report, Aikin said.
